Weather was not on our side for most of the week as we had yet another game canceled due to increment weather. However the main goal for “The Dogs” was to grab a 3 game winning streak something they haven’t done all season. Since the Shepard game was no more they had to look forward to playing St. Ignatius to do just that. Behind strong pitching performances by Jack Hayes and Nick Fucinato and Brian Kulaga, George Connelly, Nick Fucinato and great defensive play by John Szydlo, Rod Haugh, Peter Smith, and Steve Baer“The Dogs” accomplished their goal of a 3 game winning streak!!! The life lesson learned was no individual performance is more important than the team as a whole. That being said “The Dogs” look to rebound next week after 2 tough losses to Wheaton Academy.

The sophomores had the week off from conference play in week seven. Their game on Monday against Sheppard High School was rained out giving them an opportunity to get healthy and to get some quality practice in. On Saturday they Bulldogs took on Wheaton Academy in a home double header.
Having the week off from game play meant the sophomores were a little rusty to start game one. Sophomore Adam Martinson pitched for the Bulldogs and gave another solid start giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4 Warrior hitters. Offensively, the sophomores got going late scoring only 2 runs after the 4th inning.
In game two, the Bulldogs got off to an early start scoring all 6 runs in the first 2 innings. The sophomore defense played well allowing just 1 run. Sophomore Sam Smith and Freshman Kevin Fitzgerald handled the pitching duties for the Bulldogs combining for 5 hits, 11 strikeouts, and 6 walks.
The Bulldogs resume conference play in week eight as they take on Timothy Christian High School starting on Tuesday, and then host the Argonauts of Argo High school in a home double header at Ehlert Park. The sophomores now advance to 11-15 overall (7-5 in conference). Please come out and support the Bulldogs as they head into the final stretch of the season.

The “Dogs” had a rollercoster type of week with a couple peeks and valleys however the resiliency that is being built by the boys is amazing. The record of 2-6 for the week isn’t a real reflection of how the boys played, as their were many intangibles that stood in the way during the week as we will leave it at that.
The week started off versus Naz then shifted over to Fenton for conference play as all games were played well the “Dogs” were only able to squeeze out 1 win. The “Dogs” are working on starting off games on a fast start rather than digging themselves holes and coming up just short with their strong finishes.
Notable Performances: Although there was a couple strong performances at the plate and in the field the shining star of the week was John Szydlo’s complete game pitching performance versus De La Salle High School!!!!

The freshman “Dogs” played a great game versus Leyden but came up one run short in extra inning. The Bulldogs were led behind strong pitching and great defense, which kept the game tight, but the lack of hitting caught up to them in the end. The strong pitching performances came behind Jack Hayes, Peter Smith, and Nick “Fooch” Fucinato. Bulldogs defense made zero errors in the field and for the whole team deserves a pat on the back. Although the bulldogs started their season off on the wrong foot they have a very exciting upside and should be in for a great season, stay tuned.
